"The Church’s worship—the Eucharist, sacraments, prayer services, blessings, and other rites—are the very foundation of pastoral ministry. If we follow the ancient saying of Prosper of Aquitaine, lex orandi, lex credendi, then we must return once again to worship to help us prepare the leaders of tomorrow. Future pastors will certainly encounter a variety of people, problems, and situations in their ministry, and they will turn to the liturgy for comfort and assistance. Their preaching will take place in the context of worship. Their teaching will be based on the Lectionary readings that follow the feasts and fasts of the Church; their bedside prayers in the hospital will come from the breviary. All of this points to the obvious: rather than looking to the “new and improved” methods of pastoral care, why not return to the timeless, ageless liturgical life of the Church?"
